EtG URINE ALCOHOL TEST
The most common type of urine alcohol test is EtG. EtG stands for Ethyl Glucuronide, which is a direct metabolite of alcohol. When someone consumes alcohol, even a minute amount, ethyl glucuronide is formed. When EtG is present in urine this is an indicator that alcohol was ingested. EtG testing detects and measures the use of alcohol within the previous three to four days. Once an EtG urine alcohol test has been submitted it takes on average two to three days for the results to come in.

IN TREATMENT
Currently, many programs rely on EtG urine alcohol testing for monitoring a person in aftercare. While urine alcohol testing has proven to be a dependable testing method, the delay in test result is not conducive to an aftercare program. This method does not provide counselors with necessary real-time knowledge of a relapse. During treatment, catching a relapse as soon as it happens can be the difference between life and death. While each treatment center’s needs are different, there is a shift towards using mobile technology in aftercare treatment. SOBERLINK provides real-time knowledge of the clients’ behavior and allows counselors to be proactive when there are signs of relapse. The secure, accurate, and lifestyle friendly device give the treatment professional the ability to monitor their client in a low-maintenance manner.
IN CHILD CUSTODY
Urine alcohol testing is also common in child custody cases where one parent is required by a court order to be abstinent during child visitations. Often in these situations, the accused alcoholic parent is tested before the visitation to confirm no recent alcohol consumption and then again at the end of the visitation period. However, the lack of real-time monitoring is a huge concern in custody cases. SOBERLINK has become a popular alternative to urine alcohol testing in child custody cases. The technology is less invasive, completely automated and portable. SOBERLINK provides separated parents the ability to monitor sobriety
